The Craft Room Dreams are Made Of

One of my favorite things about being a professional organizer is the variety of jobs that I get to work.  Of course, I declutter and organize a lot of kitchens and garages… but sometimes someone reaches out with a project like this that I just can’t say no to.

I am so excited to bring you a closer look at this epic Craft room brought to you by products from Create Room and The Container Store.

As always, my process begins with a quick chat, followed by a consultation, either virtual or in person.  Due to the nature of this project, I went to see the space in person.  Here are a few glimpses of what the room looked like to begin.

Before

The space is a combination of office as well as craft room.  However, this client was so overwhelmed, that she had moved her crafting sessions to the living room.  She was at a loss where to start and uninspired. And we had to fix that. The room had pre-existing Elfa shelving (from The Container Store) as well as a desk and 2 cube units.  The room also had a closet. When my client presented me with the idea that she had of using a Dream Box from Create Room… I was a bit nervous but oh so excited to get this opportunity.

A Dream Box is “the ultimate organizing solution with limitless possibilities” for crafters.

At all my consultations, we discuss things like product, end goal, vision, budget and timeframe.  We decided that this space, although small, would take no less than 24 hours. You might think that sounds crazy, but when it comes to shelving installation as well as sorting a million pens, buttons and papers… the time can fly by.

The end result actually took 30 hours. But boy was it worth it.  Don’t believe me? Believe my client!

Alli is amazing! That is not hyperbole. My office/craftroom was a disaster. She helped me purge, and then organized the massive amount of supplies I had left.

Her process was great, and her way of thinking about things is awesome. Ex: in a stroke of brilliance, she took an existing shelf that was not being used well and turned it on it's side, putting it under other shelving where it works perfectly!!!

I would look around and feel depressed and overwhelmed when working in my office and was unable to craft in there hardly at all. Now I love being in my office! I have probably spent more time crafting in there in the last 2 months than I did in the 2 years before that.

I'm so pleased with how the project turned out. It's not only picture perfect, but super functional.

Between the consultation date and our scheduled sessions, my new client was able to have the Dream Box ordered and partially assembled.  And between our sessions I was able to source the rest of her product and design her new closet. My client and I spent 1 day decluttering, and then it was off to the races to get organized. You might wonder just how many categories a crafter can have. Hers broke down to this:

  • Painting

  • Diamond Art

  • Scrapbooking

  • Journaling

  • Jewelry Making

  • Kumihimu

  • Embroidery

  • Coloring

  • Ink Tracing

  • Drawing

  • Crochet.

Phew.

After hours and hours of learning about everything, maximizing the space, sorting and labeling…

I’m going to skip to the good part.

Look at what we accomplished.

After

If you or anyone you know have a specialty project in mind, I would love to be considered to help.  I’m not sure that I’m ready to do another Dream Box in the near future, but I never say never.  And if you don’t have a special project, but you’re ready to simply begin decluttering and begin the journey to getting organized, I’d love to be your girl too.

I am so grateful that this client trusted me with her space, and couldn’t be more thrilled for how it turned out.

Thank you SB. It was a pleasure.
